ONE TIP

THINK THROUGH A DAY WITH COMPANY.

Before move-in, consider how you like to spend a day with guests.

Where will you have coffee together? What should be within reach by the pool? If lunch becomes dinner, what needs to be ready? If someone stays overnight, will they have what they need without having to ask?

The answers shape how a home should be prepared: where seating belongs, how serving pieces are organized, which essentials are stocked, and what is waiting in the guest room.

I find that the most welcoming homes allow the host to enjoy the day, too. When those details are considered before arrival, an invitation can remain spontaneous.

There is something lovely about being able to say, “Stay for dinner,” and mean it without a second thought.

ONE FIND

Designed by Marc Lalique in 1951, the Champs-Élysées bowl takes its inspiration from the rows of plane trees lining the Parisian avenue. Its finely detailed crystal leaves translate that familiar landscape into something sculptural.

In the grand version, the form stretches sixty centimeters across the table. The leaves rise and fold around the bowl, giving the clear crystal a sense of movement. Handcrafted in France, it has the scale to hold its place within a generous dining room.

What draws me to this piece is how much life it brings to a transparent material. There is a little whimsy in seeing foliage take shape in crystal, with each contour giving light another surface to meet.

For a home so closely connected to its gardens, it offers a considered echo of the landscape. I would give it room on the table, allowing the shape and detail to remain visible as the setting changes around it.

A piece to enjoy during a gathering, and just as much the following morning.

ONE PROPERTY

-worth arriving for.

132 Paloma Drive, Coral Gables, Florida

There is a particular ease to a home that feels open and sheltered at once.

Here, that balance begins with the landscape.

Lush planting creates a natural sense of privacy around the residence, giving its expansive glass and outdoor living spaces an intimacy that might otherwise be difficult to achieve. That relationship is what first drew me to this property. The garden allows the home to open fully while still feeling like a retreat.

The entrance introduces that feeling through a passage across reflecting pools. Water accompanies the approach, creating a gentle transition from the street to the life within. It is a fitting beginning for a residence whose connection to water becomes more expansive as you move through it.

Designed by Choeff Levy Architecture, the home’s double-height living spaces and retractable glass walls open toward covered terraces and the pool. The architecture gives gathering a natural flow, while the surrounding greenery makes room for quieter moments within the same setting.

A morning with coffee and a book belongs here as comfortably as a long lunch with friends. There is space for conversation to move outdoors, for guests to linger, and for someone to find a shaded seat and rest. The pleasure is in how easily those experiences can share a day.

Beyond the pool, the canal and direct bay access extend that day onto the water. Leaving from your own dock makes an afternoon out feel like a continuation of being home. Dinner on the terrace becomes something to return to.

What I appreciate most is the range of life this setting supports. It has the ease of a holiday retreat, with the familiarity and privacy of home. The landscape provides shelter, the architecture welcomes company, and the waterfront leaves room for adventure.

A thoughtful arrival would begin by understanding that rhythm, the way its owners rest, gather, and spend time on the water so the life the residence makes possible feels natural from the beginning.

There is enough within reach to make a full day of it, and enough peace to leave the day entirely unplanned.
